Reading Homework Reminder for 6th, 7th, 8th!
Each day I expect the students to read for at least twenty minutes. Doing this counts toward their language arts grade. They receive 5 points for each day they read, an extra 5 for reading on Saturday, and an extra 5 for reading on Sunday. However, I will not give them credit for reading unless three items are in the planner for that day: what they read, how long they read, and their parent's signature. I take the grade each Monday for the previous week. Please check your list of assignments for language arts to see how you are doing on this! Some students got excellent grades today, and some did not. I know those students can do better!

6th Language Arts: We read chapters 16-20 in Holes today.

7th Language Arts: Today we learned about fiction and nonfiction and also met the author Richard Peck.

8th Language Arts: Today we learned about fiction and nonfiction and also met the author Patricia McKissack.

6th Social Studies: The final note cards were due this morning. We are not spending any more time working on note cards in class. If a student is behind, they have a few options including coming to Before School Club at 7:30, staying in from recess, and working on them at home.

6th Spelling: We started Lesson 4 today. These words are all about long o short o.

September 18, 2009

Have a great weekend, everyone!

6th Language Arts: The students need to finish answering the questions for chapters 11-15 of Holes this weekend.

7th & 8th Language Arts: The completed outline, including introduction and conclusion, is due on Monday.

6th Social Studies: The three impact cards are due on Monday. The students need to use their critical thinking skills and knowledge of their theme to tell about three ways their theme has impacted the world today. It may help to ask the question, "How would our world be different today if the theme had not happened?" The computer is not necessary for this part of the assignment. I expect the students to use their intelligent minds to form their answers!

September 10, 2009

Hello there! I am curious if anyone has started reading this blog yet. If you do, would you please comment on this post or send me a quick email so I know I have an audience? : )

6th Language Arts: We answered the questions that go along with chapters 6-10 in Holes. The students who did not get this finished in class have homework.

8th Language Arts: The outline (part III) for the second group of notecards, the "during" cards, is due tomorrow.

6th Social Studies: We had to take a step back today and look at the first group of notecards, the "before" cards again. I gave the students a checklist to check their cards with. If they are not able to check something on the checklist, they need to re-do or revise the notecard until everything on the list can be checked off. When they come to class tomorrow, I expect them to have the three "before" cards completely done with everything checked off on the checklist.

Spelling: Last week the class did so well on the spelling test that they earned a game of Sparkle today. They need to study tonight for tomorrow's test; I hope they do as well as they did last week!

Spanish: The students were so excited to start Spanish today. We learned numbers and practiced counting.

AR: All goals are set! Please visit with your child about what they are currently reading and what their goal for the quarter is.

Again, if you read this, please let me know!
